Robbers attack court, kill prison warder

A robbery gang, whose member is standing trial in an alleged kidnap case, on Wednesday, attacked Ihima High Court, in Okehi Local Government Area of  Kogi State, killing a prisons warder in the process.
The public relations officer of the state High Court, Mr Saqeeb Saeed, disclosed to newsmen on Thursday, adding that the attack took place at about 12.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

He said a judge of the court, Justice Moses Gwatana, had sat and adjourned the case of kidnap and robbery against the accused, Abdulrazak Nasiru, who was ordered to be remanded in prison custody.
The accused was released to the prison officer for custody at the Okene Medium Security Prison in the official pick-up van of the Nigeria Prisons Service meant for the purpose.
Saeed said before they could take off, the robbers, numbering between 10 and 12, who had been lurking in a primary school near the court, stormed the court premises, wielding weapons and shooting indiscriminately.
It was gathered that though the judge escaped unhurt, his official KIA Sorento Jeep was sprayed with bullets, but the court registrar, Mr Bakare Sunday, was not so lucky, as he was shot in the ear.
Saeed said the remains of the prison official had been deposited at the Obangede General Hospital mortuary, while the court registrar, who had been admitted for bullet wounds, was expected to have his ear x-rayed on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the state High Court Chief Registrar, Mrs Comfort Toluwashe, has lodged a complaint with the police.
